This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Cashwiseco.com (“Cashwiseco”, “we”, “us”) collects when you visit our website, how we use it, which third parties are involved and what choices and rights you have. It applies to readers worldwide, with specific information for visitors in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United States.
1. Who we are / Data controller
Cashwiseco.com is an independent personal finance publication operated by Cashwiseco, based in Spain. Cashwiseco is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. For any privacy question or request, email us at [email protected] or use our Contact page.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter sign-ups: if you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and, if you provide it, your name. Subscriptions are managed with the Icegram Express plugin on our own server.
- Messages and ratings: if you contact us or rate an article, we receive the information you choose to send (for example your email address and message) and, for ratings, technical data used to prevent duplicate votes.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, pages visited and the date and time of your visit. Our hosting provider and our security/CDN provider (Cloudflare) process this data to deliver the site and protect it against abuse.
- Cookies and similar technologies: small files and identifiers stored on your device by us and by third parties such as Google. See our Cookie Policy for details.
We do not knowingly collect special-category data (such as health data) and we will never ask you for passwords or bank or card details.
3. How we use your information
- To operate, secure and maintain the website (legitimate interests).
- To measure audience and improve our content with Google Analytics, where you have consented where consent is required.
- To show advertising through Google AdSense, which funds our free content. Ads may be personalized or non-personalized depending on your consent choices and location.
- To send you our newsletter if you have subscribed (consent). Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
- To answer your messages and handle your privacy requests (legitimate interests or legal obligation).
4. Advertising: Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, to limit how often you see an ad, to measure ad performance and to detect fraud. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to Cashwiseco.com and other sites.
You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings, and from many other vendors at aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (UK/EEA).
5. Analytics: Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (implemented through Google Site Kit) to understand how visitors use the site, for example which articles are read and how long visits last. Google Analytics uses cookies and receives your IP address, which Google uses to derive approximate location and does not store. We use the reports in aggregated form only.
6. Consent (UK, EEA and Switzerland)
Visitors from the UK, the EEA and Switzerland are shown a consent message, provided by Google’s certified consent management platform, before non-essential cookies are used for advertising or analytics. You can accept, reject or customize your choices, and you can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the privacy and cookie settings link or button displayed by the consent tool. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew it.
7. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share data only with service providers that help us run the site, including:
- Google (AdSense, Analytics, Site Kit and the consent message) – Google Privacy Policy;
- Cloudflare (content delivery and security) – Cloudflare Privacy Policy;
- our web hosting provider;
- Automattic’s Akismet service, which may check form submissions for spam.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, our readers or the public.
8. International transfers
Some providers, such as Google and Cloudflare, process data in the United States and other countries. Where UK or EU law applies, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions (including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the UK Extension) or Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. How long we keep data
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe, after which it is deleted or anonymized.
- Messages: for as long as needed to handle your request, and normally no longer than 24 months.
- Server and security logs: for a limited period set by our hosting and security providers.
- Cookies: see the durations in our Cookie Policy.
10. Your rights
UK and EEA residents (UK GDPR and EU GDPR) have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of their personal data, the right to data portability and the right to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority, such as the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es), the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or your local EU data protection authority.
US residents, including residents of California and other states with consumer privacy laws, may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request access to or deletion of it, to correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. Where cookies used for personalized advertising qualify as “sharing” under these laws, you can opt out through the consent or privacy choices tool (where shown), through Google Ads Settings, or by enabling a Global Privacy Control signal in your browser. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected] or use our Contact page. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and we will respond within the time limits required by applicable law.
11. Children
Cashwiseco.com is intended for adults. Some articles discuss teaching money skills to children and teenagers, but they are written for parents and educators. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the UK and EEA). If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please email us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
12. Security
We use HTTPS encryption, login protection and reputable providers to protect the site. No online service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Links to other websites
Our articles link to other websites, including official sources and some partner or referral links. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites, so please review their policies.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
